WHAT IF I’VE NEVER DONE YOGA?
All of our classes are for all levels of experience and flexibility. The only thing you need to do yoga is an open mind. Seriously... that’s it! It doesn’t matter how flexible, or strong, or well dressed you are. It doesn’t even matter what your postures look like. As long as you show up and do your best, you’ll benefit from yoga.
WHAT IF I’M NOT NATURALLY FLEXIBLE?
Again, the only thing you need to do yoga is an open mind. It doesn’t matter how flexible or strong you are. All that matters is that you show up and do the best you can, and you will see positive changes in your life.
WILL THE HEAT BE TOO MUCH FOR ME?
The practice room is heated to approximately 105 degrees for classes. You will get used to the temperature fairly quickly, but it may take 2-3 sessions. That’s why it’s important not to make any immediate judgments about your response to it. You will soon discover that the heat is your best friend on the practice floor. It will warm your muscles more quickly and allow you to go deeper into postures. If at any time you feel overwhelmed by the heat, please stay in the room and lay down in savasana.
DO I HAVE TO PRE-REGISTER FOR CLASS?
Yes. This allows us to make sure there is space for each student who wants to attend. All regular classes at Yoga Tribe must be booked through the Yoga Tribe App or online. On your first visit, please arrive 15 minutes before class so that we can give you a tour of our studio. The doors are open 30 minutes before class begins so you can settle in with plenty of time to spare. THERE IS NO LATE ADMITTANCE.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO YOGA?
Practicing yoga every now and then is great, but the true benefits come when you practice on a regular basis. Come three or four times a week to see steady, consistent improvement.
To change your life, come every day.
WILL I LOSE WEIGHT?
Many students with a regular yoga practice find excess pounds drop away without drastic changes in diet. In a 60-minute Hot Yoga class, you can burn anywhere from 600-1200 calories depending upon your gender and size. Hot yoga can also be a natural catalyst for changing bad habits. When you feel better about your body no matter what your weight, you may begin to make better food choices. Many students discover they have fewer cravings for sugar, salt, and caffeine, too.
WHAT IF I HAVE AN INJURY?
Just notify your teacher before class so they can offer adjustments if necessary. Yoga is the best physical therapy. Use the postures as they were intended to promote natural healing. Don’t push yourself to the point of pain. Go as far as the body allows in the posture using the correct alignment. The 60-minute Hot Yoga class is designed to heal injuries.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO FEEL AFTER YOGA?
You may feel some soreness, especially after your first few classes. That’s why it’s important to come back the next day! You will more likely prevent the body from getting sore by releasing the lactic acid. You may also feel dehydrated, so please make sure to drink lots of water, some coconut juice, or electrolyte-enhanced beverages.
And don’t be alarmed if you notice an unexpected sensation of physical and mental well-being and find yourself spontaneously smiling. This is normal. Remain calm. Enjoy. And then come back and do more yoga.
IS HOT YOGA SAFE TO DO IF I AM PREGNANT?
If you are new to hot yoga, pregnancy may not be the best time to start a hot yoga practice.
As with any exercise program, check with your physician and listen to your own body. If you had a consistent hot yoga practice before you became pregnant, you can continue your practice in the set sequence of Hot Yoga postures through the first trimester. Thereafter, you will be instructed to modify some postures. Jason Wilkerson has taught over 100 women through pregnancy. Lindsey Hill, our studio manager, practiced Hot Yoga through all four pregnancies. You will be guided and supported throughout your pregnancy. In fact, you will have a special place in the back corner of the room with your own window and as much air as you need!
